Life Is Always Teaching Us
Reflection #1: Life Is Always Teaching Us—If We’ll Pay Attention
When I look back over my life, I realize life has been my greatest teacher. I can see lessons that started long before I ever realized I was learning them.
As a child, I was learning about the world around me—how people loved, how people hurt, how choices shaped our lives, and how every experience and every spoken word left an imprint. I didn’t know it at the time, but those early years were quietly forming the person I would become.
As a teenager, I was learning about identity. Like so many young people, I was trying to figure out who I was, where I belonged, and what I wanted my life to look like. I didn’t have all the answers, but I was learning that becoming yourself is a process.
As a young woman, life moved quickly. I learned lessons about responsibility, resilience, love, sacrifice, and starting over. Some seasons stretched me more than I thought I could handle. Some moments brought me to my knees. But looking back now, I can see that those were the moments that built strength, compassion, and understanding.
And now, as a woman in my mid-50s, I’m learning a different kind of lesson: I’m learning to slow down.
I’m learning that success isn’t just about accomplishing more. Sometimes success looks like being present. Listening to your own heart and mind. Making choices that align with who you’re becoming instead of who you thought you were supposed to be.
I’m learning that every season has something to teach us. The challenge is that we don’t always recognize the lesson while we’re living it.
There were times in my life when I wondered why certain things were happening. Why things didn’t go according to plan. Why some doors closed. Why some seasons felt harder than others. But when I look back, I can see that those moments were not wasted.
They were shaping me. They were teaching me. They were preparing me to understand and help other women who find themselves standing at a crossroads, wondering, “What now?”
One of the things I love about being a life coach is creating space for people to pause and notice what their own lives are revealing. So often, we are searching for answers somewhere outside ourselves, when, in reality, the wisdom we need is already within us and can only be uncovered as we move through our own life experiences.
Life is always teaching us—the question is whether we are paying attention.
Maybe there is something your life has been trying to show you lately: Maybe it’s a pattern you keep repeating or a dream you keep putting off. Maybe it’s a feeling that something needs to change even though you have no idea what it could be.
Instead of only asking, “Why is this happening?” try asking: “What is this moment trying to teach me?”, because every season carries a lesson. Every experience can grow us. Every chapter can reveal something new. We just have to be willing to listen.
Reflection Question: What has life been trying to teach you lately?
Take a few quiet moments and reflect. What keeps showing up in your thoughts, your circumstances, or your heart? What lesson might be waiting for you?
Sometimes the answers we’re searching for have been gently unfolding all along.
