How to Stay Connected to Christ in Everyday Life
Every January, I choose a word to guide my year. This year, I chose the word “Abide.” Or in more everyday language—stay connected to Christ.
To be honest, I haven’t done the best job. Life got busy. I got distracted. And I’ve struggled with discipline when it comes to my time with God.
But I know I’m not the only one. Many women feel the same. We love God, but in the middle of real life—work, family, goals, stress—it’s hard to stay spiritually grounded. That’s why I believe this message matters so much.
Staying connected to Christ isn’t just about having quiet time or checking off a spiritual to-do list. It’s about building a relationship that transforms everything: your mindset, your peace, your goals, your relationships, and your sense of purpose.
Let’s talk about what it really means and how you can start living it out today.
What It Means to Stay Connected to Christ
In John 15:4, Jesus says, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you.” Some versions say “abide,” but the meaning is simple: stay close.
This is about relationship, not religion. Staying connected to Christ means:
- You talk to Him throughout the day.
- You invite Him into your thoughts, emotions, and decisions.
- You lean on His strength instead of your own.
- You return to Him when you drift.
Like a branch that can’t survive without the vine, we can’t thrive without staying connected to the source of life. Jesus is our source. The more connected we are to Him, the more peace, direction, and fruit we’ll experience in our everyday lives.
Why Staying Close to God Changes Everything
As a life coach, I often teach about balance using the “Wheel of Life.” It includes areas like faith, mindset, relationships, health, career, and emotions. I’ve learned that staying spiritually grounded in Christ helps everything else fall into place.
Here’s how that connection makes a difference:
1. Your goals become more peaceful and purposeful.
Instead of chasing achievement or success for the wrong reasons, your goals start to reflect God’s heart. You shift from striving to surrender. You begin to ask, “God, what do You want for me in this season?”
2. Your relationships grow stronger.
When you’re spiritually filled, you’re able to show up with more love, patience, and wisdom. You listen more. You react less. You can serve your family and love your people without burning out.
3. Your thoughts and emotions become more steady.
When you’re connected to Christ, you don’t spiral the same way. You still have hard days, but you come back to truth quicker. You have a place to take your anxiety, your questions, and your weariness. And He gives you peace in return.
4. You get clarity about your purpose.
God starts to highlight your gifts, your story, and the work He’s calling you to do. You begin to live with more confidence because you know you’re walking with Him—and He’s leading the way.
How to Stay Connected to Christ Daily
Let’s keep it simple. This is not about being perfect. It’s about coming back to Jesus again and again and staying close.
Here are five ways you can stay connected to Christ even when life feels busy:
1. Start your day with Him.
It doesn’t have to be fancy. Read a Bible verse, say a short prayer, or journal your thoughts. Give Him your first thoughts and invite Him into your day.
2. Talk to Him throughout your day.
You don’t have to wait for quiet time. Whisper a prayer as you drive, do dishes, or walk into a meeting. Keep the conversation open. He’s always listening.
3. Set reminders that point you back to Him.
This could be a sticky note on your mirror, a verse on your phone wallpaper, or a worship playlist in your earbuds. Let your environment remind you of what matters most.
4. Make time to be still.
Even just a few moments of silence can shift your heart. Slow down, breathe deeply, and ask, “God, what are You saying right now?” He speaks when we listen.
5. Stay connected to community.
You weren’t meant to walk with Jesus alone. Whether it’s church, a friend, a Bible study group, or a coaching community like mine—find people who encourage your faith.
What If You Feel Like You’ve Drifted?
The beautiful thing is that Jesus never moves away from us. Even if you feel like you’ve been distant or distracted, you can always come back. He’s not disappointed—He’s ready to meet you where you are.
Staying connected isn’t about catching up. It’s about returning to the One who never left.
Final Thoughts
Staying connected to Christ is the foundation for everything else. When you stay close to Him, your goals become more meaningful, your relationships deepen, and your thoughts find peace.
You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just need to stay close.
If you’ve been feeling spiritually dry, overwhelmed, or like you’re just going through the motions, this is your invitation to slow down and reconnect with the One who gives life.
He’s not asking you to try harder. He’s simply inviting you to walk with Him.
And that’s where everything begins to change.
